Cheryl’s background

Cheryl began her career in New York City after graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA in Interior Design. After working in New York, Cheryl became a licensed architect. 

After Cheryl married and had 2 beautiful daughters – her best creations ever! – Cheryl decided to give her family her full attention. As time passed Cheryl wanted to get back to the drawing board. She went to work for Concept Construction NJ, a company started by David, her architect husband, and his associate. Cheryl learned the business and loved what she was doing so much that she made Concept Construction NJ her own – a woman owned business. Today, you will see Cheryl out on construction sites with the trades getting projects completed for her clients.

Cheryl also serves as vice-president of Buckman Architectural Group, a full-service architectural firm owned by her husband David Buckman.

More than a general contractor

For each project, not only does Cheryl make it her business to understand the client, Cheryl brings together the right people to get the work done. “It takes a team to do the work right. I don’t do it alone.” Working directly with clients from design to build to completion, Cheryl is the one responsible for seeing the project to the end. Working with Cheryl means no “middle men,” no blame game between architect and contractor, and no wasted time or money.

Because she does the jobs of both general contractor and commercial architect, the client can go back to work confident that all aspects of the job are being handled with care. She takes away the aggravation factor so common with complex commercial construction projects.

Cheryl Kraft Buckman provides her clients a uniquely broad range of expertise across the entire reconstruction project. Cheryl has had the LEED AP Accredited Professional Certificationfrom Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) since 2009. “A LEED credential denotes proficiency in today’s sustainable design, construction and operations standards,” says the U.S. Green Building Council website. 

Environment always plays a big part of Cheryl’s mindset in the design-build process. She uses energy saving and “green” practices and solutions beyond what’s required by code, and practices site driven design methodologies.
